Running Log 5/22/17

Running Log 5/22/17

Location: PG High School football field/track

Task: 20/40’s for 10 minutes

Participants: Entire family

By “entire family” I don’t suggest that we all ran.  I don’t run at all.  JR is just barely walking (but doing a fabulous job of it), and Steven spent most of the time crying.

We were all present though.  It was good quality family time, even with the tears involved.

Task

A 20/40 is just a longer variant of the 15/30 I’ve described before.  20 seconds of sprinting (100% full speed) followed by 40 seconds of walking.  Repeat for 10 minutes.  I switched to the 20/40 format for two reasons.  First, it is a longer sprint which the older kids are ready for, and; second, it is easier to keep track of when to start/stop because it ends on each minute.

This time we had a new whistle we got to use so I didn’t have to yell STOP and START over and over.   One whistle blast means run and 2 means stop.  Much better for me!

Results

Not a particulartly good outing.  We went much later in the evening that normal and almost nobody was excited for it.  Having a bad attitude almost always leads to bad effort and bad results.

Josh only did about 1/2 of the laps before he was complaining his knee hurt, and so he walked the rest.   Caitlin at almost exactly the same time said she twisted her ankle (on the flat track??), but continued half-heartedly.  Kristie tried hard but was ornery about not being able to breath – this is her least favorite running activity.  Even Julie had issues.

JR cried as soon as Mom ran away from him.  Steven cried as soon as he realized he couldn’t keep up.  Andrew finished one lap and begged to be done.

We were going to do 15 minutes of this exercise, but when Nikki came up at 10 minutes and claimed she needed to pee I called it quits, gave 3 blasts to signal we were done, and headed for the car.  Julie had just started another lap and so she walked the whole thing to cool down.  Who walked with her?  The girl who supposedly needed to pee, “sooo bad!”.

I set up the GoPro, so I’ll edit the video if any of it is any good and post it at a later date.

Raising Some Dough!

Earning Summer Cash

Not wanting to mooch off of Mom and Dad, Caitlin and Joshua are trying to raise money.  They have summer activities they need to pay for and items lost in the fire they want to replace.   They are already in the hole (to Jax and me) for swimming lessons and summer passes to the pool.  Their chosen method to raise money is to sell bread products – loaves, rolls, etc.  You might say they are “raising some dough.”

This isn’t new to them.  They’ve both been making bread for a long time.  We’ve made our own bread at our house for years now, and they both learned to do it.  So you won’t be getting experimental bread, you’ll be getting our tried and true recipe for fantastic fresh bread.

Joshua's rolls
They look good, don’t they?

Orders

They would like to find a few regular customers, people who they can provide bread to on a regular basis on certain days of the week (Mr Jones every Monday; Mrs Smith on Tues. and Fri. for example).   It’s available any day of the week except Sunday.   It would be best if they didn’t have more than 4 loaves of bread or 4 dozen rolls on any one day.

One time orders are welcome as well!  They won’t turn anyone away.

For special occasions they would do more 4 per day.  For example, if you have a family reunion this summer and would like 12 dozen rolls, that would be fine with some advance notice.   These would be great for occasions like Memorial Day BBQ, Birthday parties, Thanksgiving dinner, family Christmas Party.

All bread is white bread for now.  As soon as we can get our wheat grinder from Missouri we will be able to offer wheat bread too.

Pricing

One loaf of bread: $5

One dozen rolls: $5

Half dozen rolls: $3

Half dozen cinnamon rolls: $5

2-4 Bread Bowls (for soup): $5  … number depends on the size you want the bowl.

Bread Bowls
Either 2 Large Bowls or 4 small bowls for $5

Special pricing available for larger orders.  If you want a specialty bread, like Italian bread, then make a request and they may be willing to fill it.

Shipping

Neither of these two can drive, so we’re anticipating customers to be local (in the PG area).  We will deliver to you in that area.  If you live outside of PG and want bread (rolls for lunch, or cinnamon rolls for the office maybe), then we will have to make arrangements for pickup (we could meet you near a freeway entrance for instance).

Morning delivery will be most likely.  They will wake up, make the dough, and deliver the breads when they are done baking.  You could have fresh, hot bread in the mornings for breakfast!

Would you like the smell of fresh bread in the morning?

For large special orders we can make arrangements for delivery to other locations.   Again, just give us enough advance notice and we’ll make sure the kids take good care of you.

Order Your Dough Now!

So if you would like a weekly delivery of specially made fresh bread, then order now!  We’ll take orders for up to 4 loaves, or 4 dozen rolls, per day.   You can order by filling out the form below, private message on Facebook, or give us a call at 870-291-1520.  Be sure to tell us which day you’d like regular deliveries on!

Satisfaction guaranteed.  They are kids.  They’ve been known to occasionally forget to add things like salt, or sugar.  So if you get a bad batch then it will be replaced for free.

Payment expected upon delivery.  Cash is preferred.

If you haven’t tasted our manna from heaven before, than a free sample will be provided upon request.

Running Log 5/3/17

I am going to start publishing a post each time we get out and go running.  They should each be entitled “Running Log” followed by the date.  I don’t expect many of you to read them, so I’m giving you a heads up.  I’m making the record for the kids.  Feel free to read them if you’d like.

We went to the PG Rec Center today after school.   We wanted to go to the High School track and do 15-30’s, but the football team was out practicing.  I didn’t think the coach would appreciate me blowing a whistle every 15 seconds while he was conducting a practice.

I can’t use the whistle inside the Rec Center, but we really wanted to do sprints today.  So we improvised of course.   The track is a big oval (like the typical 1/4 mile track at a football field) only smaller.   This track is 6.5 laps per mile.  In order to facilitate sprints we decided on sprinting the long sections and walking the curves/short sides.

This event was not timed.  Everyone from Julie down to Nikki ran 26 sets of sprints.   That was 13 laps (2 sprints per lap) for a total of 2 miles running/walking.     Andrew only ended up running 8 laps and then walked with JR and me.  JR crawled an entire lap while I walked beside him with my cane.

Every one did fantastic.   They were each exhilarated by being able to complete the task.   Julie was especially glad to finish.  After just 4 laps she looked like she was going to have a hard time doing all 13.   She kept going and faced each sprint one at a time.   She was (and always is) exceptional.

Josh finished the fastest of course.   He lapped everyone 2x, and lapped Julie 3 times.  He sprinted all-out each and every time and was exhausted at the end.  His effort is always outstanding.

Caitlin is not the strongest runner, but her effort was also excellent.   She ran hard and did great.  She was all smiles that the end.  Accomplishing hard tasks brings her a real sense of accomplishment.  I hope that continues throughout her life.
